Overseas and Private Patients Officer

Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust was formed in October 2013, following the merger of Lewisham Healthcare NHS Trust and Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich. The Trust was named as one of the top 100 healthcare employers in HSJ's 2014 survey on the best places to work.

Over the last year, key developments have included:

  • Ongoing work with health and social care partners to reduce A&E waiting times and improve the discharge process.
  • Improvements to how we manage patient information – with the introduction of new systems of electronic patient records at Queen Elizabeth Hospital and University Hospital Lewisham.
  • Our ongoing recruitment campaign, which has increased the number of permanent staff by over 400 since the merger.
  • Work to improve infection control, such as the introduction of new hand hygiene foam or gel dispensers in public areas around our sites.
  • New services and facilities, such as the midwifery-led Greenwich Birth Centre, which opened in May 2015.

We are seeking exceptionally motivated individuals to join our friendly dynamic team.

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the in the financial accounts team at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust.  This role is for an Overseas Visitor and Private Patients Officer to assist the Trust in meeting its statutory obligations of recovering charges from patients, who are deemed under legislation, to be chargeable and for improving cost recovery from other EEA member states.

The role will be based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Woolwich University Hospital, on occasions, will require cross site working at University Hospital Lewisham site. Key relationships are wide ranging and include both clinical and administrative disciplines as well as patients and their relatives, so good communication skills are essential as well as an ability to work in a calm and sensitive manner.

The successful candidate will report to Overseas Visitors and Private Patients Supervisor.

The individual will ideally have experience of working in the Finance department and specifically in the overseas and private patients section.

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
